Nigerian attacker, Anthony Nwakaeme has made a decision on his future at Turkish club, Trabzonspor.
According to Turkish sports media outfit Sporx, Nwakaeme has agreed on a three-year extension with the league leaders.
The 32-year old one-time capped Super Eagles striker is believed to have met club President, Ahmet Agaoglu to iron his contractual situation out. After the meeting, both parties settled for a 2+1 year contract.
A ceiling fee is expected to be charged for the services of Nwakaeme while he will also earn bonuses in addition to his salary.
The club will in the coming days hold a ceremony to announce his signature according to Sporx. Nwakaeme was not short of suitors especially from clubs in the Middle East.
His impressive showing with the Black Sea Storm has seen him rack up 9 goals and 9 assists in 21 league games this season. Five of his goals have come in the last three games against Konyaspor, Alanyaspor and Kayserispor.
Recall that Nwakaeme joined Trabzonspor from Israeli club Hapoel Beer Sheva in 2018 and scored 10 goals and contributed 10 assists in his debut season. He’s on course to repeat and surpass his impressive debut season stats this season.
Trabzonspor currently lead the Turkish Super League with 66 points from 27 games, 17 points ahead of second-placed Konyaspor. Barring any late slump in fortunes, Nwakaeme is expected to emerge a league champion at the end of the season.
His fortune with the Super Eagles hasn’t been as bright, representing the national team just once in a dead rubber 2018 World Cup qualifying game against Algeria in Oran. With a new coach in charge, Nwakaeme may fancy his chances of returning to the Nigerian fold again.
