The Super Eagles star joined Liverpool in 2015, but he did not play for the first team before leaving for the German Bundesliga
Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed that he wants to return to the English Premier League.
The 24-year-old star left Liverpool after an unproductive six years at Anfield. Awoniyi, who was one of the standout performers at the 2013 World Cup, sealed a move to Liverpool in 2015.
However, as a youngster, Awoniyi had to go on different loan spells in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. Also, because of his inability to secure a work permit, the Nigerian star could not feature for the Reds.
But last season, when he finally got his permit, Liverpool opted to let him go to Union Berlin, where he had impressed a season before.
Since Awoniyi secured a permanent deal at Die Eisernen, he has been on fire. The Nigeria international has rattled the net 14 times in 28 appearances.
Nonetheless, the Super Eagles talisman is keen on returning to the Premier League.
“The Premier League is my dream,” Awoniyi told LFC transfer room.
“Everyone knows that, even here in Union. The decisive difference for me is that if I lived in England, it would be easier for my wife and kid, not just because of the language. In addition, my sister & brother live there.”
With Awoniyi’s fantastic performances this season, a return to the Premier League could be in the making.
