Super Eagles ready Afcon friendly against 15-time Cameroon champions

The former Afcon kings will aim for a fourth continental crown when the biennial showpiece kicks off next month

The Super Eagles are set to trade tackles with Cameroonian club Coton Sport in preparation for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which is scheduled to run from January 9 to February 6, 2022.

Coton Sport director of communications Salisu Amadu, revealed, as per TVC News, that the club has received a proposal from the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, for a warmup match.

15-time Cameroon Premiere Division champions Coton Sport are based in Garoua, where the Super Eagles are scheduled to play their Afcon group matches.

The Nigerians open their continental challenge with a faceoff against seven-time winners Egypt on January 11.

1970 Afcon champions Sudan follow next for the Super Eagles on the 15th before the team rounds off its group stage outing with a meeting against Guinea-Bissau four days later. All three matches are slated to be played at the Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adjia in Garoua.

No date has been communicated for the friendly match between the Super Eagles and the Cottoners.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian national team camp for the 2021 Afcon officially opened on December 29 at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah is the first invited player to make it to the camp.

The 23-year-old former Akwa United star has since been joined by Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi and Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble.

The Super Eagles last won the Afcon in 2013 when a Stephen Keshi-inspired side defeated Burkina Faso in the final.
