The Nigerian forward believes that his former teammate has done enough to be on the same level as the Paris Saint Germain star
Super Eagles and Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi believes that Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the World.
The ex-Liverpool man believes that his former teammate has done enough to be placed alongside other world-class players like seven-time Balon d’Or winner Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.
Awoniyi spent six years at Merseyside, but due to his inability to secure a British working permit, he spent a major part of that time on loan deals in Germany, Netherland, and Belgium.
However, he had a short stint with Salah just before his permanent move to Union Berlin in July. And after spending time with the Liverpool forward, the 24-year-old believes that the Egyptian star has done enough to be grouped amongst football Greats.
“When I met with him and saw him in training, you see a guy who has everything,” Awoniyi told Goal.com.
“The experience is there. From where he came from, he has played for Chelsea, for Roma and now Liverpool. This guy is already at the top. He is on the level of Messi and Lewandowski, and the rest.”
Awoniyi might not be far from the truth, as Salah has been head and shoulders above every player in the Premier League this season.
The former Chelsea man has scored 14 goals and assisted 11 in just 16 games. Last season, he scored 22 goals, and he narrowly missed out on the Golden boot as Harry Kane had 23 to his name.
However, the former CAF player of the year was only recognised as the seventh-best player in the World at the last Balon d’Or.
Awoniyi will look to trade tackles with the Egyptian when the Super Eagles lock horns with the Pharaohs at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
