The Super Eagles shot-stopper made his sixth appearance of the season as the Amakhosi took home the bragging rights in the Soweto derby
Daniel Akpeyi won the battle of Super Eagles stars after he helped Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-1 win over Olisa Ndah’s Orlando Pirates in their Dstv Premiership clash at the Amakhosi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Akpeyi, who is close to sealing a contract extension with the club, appears to be Chiefs number one now as Saturday’s game was his sixth consecutive appearance in the league.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper put in an impressive shift in goal as Stuart Baxter’s men bounced back from their disappointing home loss to Stellenbosch FC last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing afternoon for Ndah as he gave away the penalty that proved to be the winner for Chiefs.
The home side took the lead in the 49th minute, courtesy of a strike from Keagan Dolly. However, Orlando Pirates drew level three minutes from time through Linda Mntambo.
Mntambo’s strike appeared to have snatched a point for Pirates until Ndah was penalised in the box for a foul in the second minute of added time.
Dolly stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, handing Chiefs a dramatic win in the first instalment of this season’s Soweto derby.
