The 27-year-old attacker could not add to his goal haul on Sunday, but a Nigerian still managed to find the back of the net for The Smurfs
Paul Onuachu’s incredible goalscoring run came to an end, but Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo was on target as Genk suffered a disappointing loss to ten-man Eupen in their Belgian Jupiler League clash.
Onuachu had scored nine goals in nine league games, including a hat-trick in the last match, going into the clash at the Kehrwegstadion.
However, he was unable to add to his tally as he only featured for just 18 minutes. The former Midtjylland man started the game from the bench, with John van den Brom selecting Super Eagles hopeful and former Chelsea star Ugbo to lead the attack.
Genk took the lead in the 11th minute through Kristian Thorstvedt, but the home side drew level five minutes later, courtesy of a strike from Smail Prevljak.
However, The Smurfs were handed an advantage in the 50th minute after Jordi Armat was sent off for a professional foul.
Genk took advantage of the extra man, and they retook the lead in the 71st minute through the impressive Ugbo, who finished off a ball from Gerardo Arteaga.
Ugbo, who joined Genk from Chelsea in the summer, was impressive on the night, making two key passes aside from his goal.
The 23-year-old was taken off for his compatriot Onuachu just a minute after he put his side ahead. However, Eupen refused to give up, and they restored parity four minutes from time courtesy of Prevljak’s second of the night.
It then got better for the home side as Jonathan Heris popped up in the third minute of added time to give them the three points.
