Barcelona legend Carles Puyol praises Nigeria’s star for a brilliant performance

The former Spain international still keeps track of his club’s performance on the pitch, and he was impressed with the women’s team display on Wednesday night

Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has praised Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala for her performance in Barcelona’s 4-1 thrashing of Arsenal in their UEFA Women Champions League clash on Tuesday night.

Oshoala delivered a sterling performance as Barcelona began their Champions League defence with a comprehensive victory over the English side.

Puyol took to his Twitter account to praise the Super Falcons captain for her all-round display against her former employees.

Oshoala then responded to Puyol’s praises with a quoted tweet, which read: GRACIAS legend.

The four-time African Women’s player of the year had a hand in three of the four goals Barcelona scored on the night.

Mariona Caldentey put Barcelona ahead, but it came after Oshoala’s initial shot had been saved. The former Liverpool star then provided the assist for Alexia Putellas for Barcelona’s second before scoring the third with a well-composed finish.

Lieke Martens scored Barcelona’s fourth after Frida Maanum had pulled one back for Arsenal.

But the headline was all about Oshoala, who has finally found form this season. The Nigerian star has now scored eight goals in all competitions for Jonatan Giráldez’s side this season.

  • Is this the same Oshoala whom that south African lady left dumbfounded when they thrashed us 4:2?
Please tell me what has changed? Is it the pitch or the weather or the colour of the players she was playing against? I am confused.

    • The only problem Nigerians have is please is she the only one to play with herself, give her good players and see where the wonders in her performance

    • People like you see only negative aspect of everything/everyone, You complain about Falcons being trashed yet you never praise them for trashing other Africa teams. Oshoala plays for Barcelona and is been appreciated by the whole team, she's not just the Africa women current player of the year, she's won it 4 good times, think about it dude

  • Oshaola has really upgraded herself while playing for a top club like Barcelona.

Puyol has recognized her hence she just needs to keep improving and not to disappoint.

    Bravo.

  • I use to know her hen she was little we played football with her after lessons then such is life am so happy for her because she has done alot for those she grew up with helped her first team I guess I wish all the best in life the sky is ur limits

  • Asisat I use to know her hen she was little we played football with her after lessons then such is life am so happy for her because she has done alot for those she grew up with helped her first team I guess I wish all the best in life the sky is ur limits

  • Asisat Oshoala is the best player Nigeria has ever produced, including the male team. She has won many games single handedly for her club and country. Tell any Nigerian player that won African footballer of the year four times?

  • Kudos to Barca management team. We Barca fans also love the women's wing. AO is a gem and feat to hit headlines.Well done AO
