The three-time African champions are currently preparing for their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Les Fauves but could be without one of their top players
Nigeria’s Super Eagles could be without Paul Onuachu for their 2022 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic.
The Super Eagles take on Les Fauves in a doubleheader qualifier, with the first leg set for Thursday evening at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
However, they are set to be without Onuachu after picking up a knock in Tuesday’s training session. The former Midtjylland striker, who is Nigeria’s top scorer in European leagues this season, missed Wednesday’s session, which was monitored by Soccernet.
Onuachu’s potential absence is a blow to the plans of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr. Although he’s not likely to start, the 27-year-old would have been an option off the bench should Nigeria need a goal.
Rohr is already without key players like Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, while Terem Moffi also pulled out of the squad after picking up an injury in Lorient’s Ligue 1 clash against Clermont Foot.
The German tactician will now have to rely on Taiwo Awoniyi as a backup to Victor Osimhen, who is expected to lead the line for the Super Eagles.
