Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has expressed uncertainty about his future at the King Power Stadium despite Leicester City’s return to the English Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.
Throughout this season, the former Manchester City forward has only made 10 starts for the Foxes and has been absent from the squad since Leicester’s clash against Millwall.
There have been rumours suggesting friction between the Nigerian star and his manager, Enzo Maresca, who reportedly advised him against accepting Nigeria’s invitation for the AFCON, advice Iheanacho eventually disregarded.
However, over the weekend, the Foxes were crowned champions of the EFL Championship, securing their return to the Premier League after just a year.
In a video shared by Oma Akatugba, Nabila Fash asked the two Nigerian players in the team, Wilfred Ndidi and Iheanacho, were questioned about their next move after winning the Championship league.
Ndidi, expressing his excitement, swiftly responded to his progression to the Premier League despite being linked with a move away from the East Midlands.
“I feel amazing, I feel great,” he said, adding, “It’s [the English] Premier League, onwards and upwards.”
When asked about his feelings, Iheanacho expressed his excitement and revealed he is still a Leicester City player but uncertain about the next step.
“I feel good, I feel great. It’s a massive achievement so I’m really happy,” he said. Before being interrupted by his Ghanaian teammate Fatawu, he also revealed his uncertainty about his next move, saying, “I don’t know for now, [but] I’m still a Leicester [City] player.”
Iheanacho and Ndidi’s contracts with the Foxes are set to end at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season campaign, sparking debates in the football community about whether Leicester will renew Iheanacho’s deal given his limited playing time this season.
However, the Super Eagles attacker has been linked with a move away from King Power, with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace reportedly vying for his signature as the summer transfer window approaches.
