Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen fined for the second time this season

The Nigerian attacker was the man-of-the-match against Cagliari, but it almost ended on a sour note for him

The Italian Serie A authorities have handed Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen a fine of €2,000 for simulation during Napoli’s matchday six clash against Cagliari at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday.

Napoli were also sanctioned with a fee of €3,000.

Osimhen delivered a man-of-the-match performance as Napoli secured their sixth league victory of the campaign with a 2-0 home win over Cagliari.

The Nigerian forward opened the scoring – his sixth goal in four games – in the 11th-minute. The Napoli record-buy then outsmarted Diego Godin in the second half to earn the hosts a penalty, which skipper Insigne converted to double their advantage.

However, Osimhen was back on the floor in Cagliari’s box moments later, but the referee decided the former Lille man dived and showed him a yellow card.

And according to Tutto Napoli, the league authorities believe the match official was correct with his call and have added the fine to Osimhen’s caution.

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti withdrew Osimhen for Andrea Petagna in the 77th-minute of that encounter with the Nigerian lad at the risk of a second booking.

The former AS Roma tactician later revealed that he substituted the talented youngster because he was tired.

It would be recalled that Osimhen was sent off in the first half of Napoli’s first Serie A match of the season at Venezia. The former Golden Eaglets hero was later fined after his two-game ban was reduced to one.
