The Super Eagles attacker delivered a performance for ages on Thursday night, but it was not enough to earn him the big award for the week
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has missed out on the Europa League player of the week despite delivering a brilliant individual performance in the Neapolitans draw against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Osimhen scored a brace in his fourth appearance in the competition to help Napoli come back from two goals down against the Foxes.
The Nigerian international was a thorn in the flesh of Leicester City’s defenders, who could not cope with his speed and pressing.
But despite delivering a performance for ages, it was not enough to earn him the Europa League player of the week.
The former Lille star was nominated for the award but lost to 2014 World Cup winner Mario Gotze. Gotze took most of the fans votes after scoring and providing an assist in PSV’s 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad.
Osimhen’s first goal against Leicester also missed out on the goal of the week, losing to Karl Toko Ekambi’s strike for Lyon against Rangers.
