Onyeka produces a brilliant show to help Brentford secure a vital point against Liverpool

The Nigerian midfielder continued his impressive start to the Premier League as he produced a brilliant effort to help the Bees

Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka delivered an impressive shift in the midfield to help Brentford secure an entertaining 3-3 draw against Liverpool at the Brentford Community stadium.

The Bees were presented with the herculean task of surmounting the hurdle of Liverpool at the Brentford community stadium, but they went into the tie with some great level of optimism.

Nigerian midfielder Onyeka got his fourth start of the season in a 4-5-1 formation that gave the former Midtjylland man the opportunity to drift forward.

The game started quite well, with Brentford showing their willingness to attack. It was end to end stuff, with both sides registering goal-line clearances at either end.

Even Onyeka wasn’t left out as he got himself in a promising position after some quick passing with Mbeumo, but he blazed his shot over the bar.

With the number of opportunities falling to both sides, it was only a matter of time before Ethan Pinnock opened the scoring for Brentford in the 27th minute after a fantastic pass from Ivan Toney.

But it wasn’t over yet for the Reds, as Jota slotted in a cross from Jordan Henderson to restore parity for Liverpool.

Brentford could have been in a precarious situation after Robertson made a quick dash into their final third, but Onyeka stepped in and placed a tackle, albeit rough, it ended Robertson’s run and earned him a yellow card.

The second half started with Liverpool dominating proceedings and creating more chances. And it didn’t take long for Salah to get his name on the scoresheet as he latched on to a beautiful pass from Fabinho in the 54th minute and slotted home behind Raya in goal for Brentford.

However, Brentford responded just ten minutes later as Janelt capitalised on Liverpool’s defensive mistakes and headed home to make it 2-2.

In the 67th minute, it was all sore tales for the Bees as a deflected Curtis Jones shot made sure that Brentford would once again trail in the game.

In the 68th minute, after a fantastic show that saw him put in two tackles and got a 75% pass accuracy,  Onyeka was taken off for Baptiste.

Brentford kept their heads high despite the pressure from Liverpool, and they were rewarded for their efforts as Yoane Wissa placed a beautiful finish behind Allison to seal a point.

Thomas Frank’s men will be happy with their feat, as they are the first side to score three goals against Liverpool in seven months.
