Ex-Super Eagles star in line to become Commisioner in Abia State

Former Nigerian international Pascal Karibe Ojigwe is set to be appointed as a Commissioner by the Abia State Government.

According to a statement credited to the Secretary to the Government, Chris Ezem, as per CitizenNG, the ex-Super Eagles midfielder’s name is one of 27 commissioner nominees that the governor has forwarded to the Abia State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

Ojigwe would be the latest ex-international to dabble into the political firmament, following the likes of Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, Daniel Amokachi, and Minister of Youth and Sports ambassador Odion Ighalo.

Ojigwe started his career at Enyimba in 1993, and moved to FC Kaiserslautern two years later and played a bit-part role as the Red Devils became the first newly-promoted side to win the Bundesliga in 1998.

After a loan spell at Cologne, Ojigwe joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2000 and was a member of that infamous Die Werkself’s side that finished runners-up in the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League in 2002.

The Aba-born defensive midfielder spent the latter part of his career at Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1860 Munich before returning to Enyimba in 2006 where he hanged his boots.

A member of the triumphant Golden Eagles squad to Japan ’93, Ojigwe was with the Super Eagles between 1994 and 2002, earning 17 caps and scoring two goals.
