The Nigerian international has rediscovered his scoring momentum and was once again on target to lead the Smurfs to another league win
Paul Onuachu scored his third goal of the season to inspire Genk to a 4-0 victory over Oud-Heverlee Leuven at the Luminous Arena on Saturday.
After an incredible campaign last year that saw him net 33 goals in the Belgian Jupiler League, Onuachu struggled in front of goal in Genk’s first two matches of the campaign.
The 27-year-old fired blanks as Genk lost 3-2 in the Super Cup clash with league winners Club Brugge and drew 1-1 with Royal Charleroi in their league opener.
But after being granted a timeout to refuel his engine, the Nigerian forward has rediscovered a bit of the sharpness that made him so untouchable last term.
Onuachu breached his opponents’ nets in two of his last three games in all competitions, and he notched his third of the campaign against OH-Leuven.
The Super Eagles striker doubled Racing’s lead just before the hour-mark after Theo Bongonda had handed them a third-minute advantage.
Two further goals from Junya Ito and Kristian Thorstvedt ensured that John van den Brom’s men secure a convincing home win and their second victory of the season.
