Carabao Cup: Dennis fires blank but Etebo puts in an impressive shift as Watford sends The Eagles out

Three Nigerian stars were in action for the Hornets as they sealed progressed to the next round of the Carabao Cup with a victory over the Eagles

Emmanuel Dennis, William Troost-Ekong and Oghenekaro Etebo all featured for Watford, but it was the latter that stood out as the Hornets progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road.

Both Etebo and Ekong featured from start to finish while Dennis was a second-half substitute. While Dennis has been the most impressive of the trio so far, it was Etebo’s performance that caught the eye tonight.

The former Getafe midfielder created one big chance, completed 24 passes, including one key pass. He also made two interceptions and the same number of tackles.

The game itself lacked excitement as both teams could not find the breakthrough in the opening 45 minutes. It was heading to penalties until Ashley Fletcher fired home four minutes from time to send Watford through.
