What are Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup?

The second round of the group stage in the Africa qualifying zone for the 2022 World Cup is about to start, and the Supers Eagles are still in the running to try to get their qualification, as they are used to the big football events.

Here is more information on Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

Opponents within reach

Recently released first of his pool, the group L of the playoffs of the CAN Cameroon 2021 without losing any match, Nigeria (32nd in the last FIFA ranking Coca-Cola) is on a good dynamic. Indeed, Wilfried Ndidi’s teammates have had a very good track record since the last CAN.

Housed in Group C with Cape Verde (73rd), the Central African Republic (118th) and Liberia (151st), Gernot Rohr’s players should reasonably triumph over their opponents without too much difficulty, at least given their level of play, their FIFA ranking index and on paper as is said in the football jargon tick.

The individualities of the Nigeria team

The Super Eagles are undoubtedly one of the African teams that can boast of having players in their squad who are playing at a very high level in Europe, in the most competitive championships for the most part.

One of the deluxe wildcards in this selection is Victor Osimhen, the top scorer in the recent CAN playoffs. The Napoli player (10 goals this season in Serie A) has scored four goals in this phase and is at the top of the scoring standings.

Another major asset that Nigeria can exploit in this second phase of qualifying for the 2022 world championship, Samuel Chukuweze.

The Villarréal winger who won the UEFA Europa League this season is constantly impressing with very high-level performances for two seasons.

His margin of progress benefits both his club and his national selection, where at 22, he is already one of the pillars, a true proof of precocity and talent assumed.

Another leading player in the Nigerian selection, Kelechi Iheanacho, the Leicester striker who had a great end to the season with the foxes, was also not insignificant.

With 20 goals in all competitions this season for his club, he will be one of the players to watch closely during this campaign, especially because of his renewed confidence and his form during the second part of the season.

There are many others whose talent is universally recognised and already proven on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

All this plethora of stars and talents is an important arsenal that Nigeria has at its disposal, and that can at any time make a difference and change the course of a match.

The selection of Nigeria is once again in pole position to pass the second round of the 2022 world qualifiers. However, be careful not to fall into an excess of confidence like the French because football reserves many surprises, which makes all its charm.
