The Nigerian international is expected to leave the Cristal Arena this summer, but there hasn’t been any official bid yet
Genk coach John van den Brom has revealed that Paul Onuachu could stay at the club beyond this summer, even though they expect him to leave.
Onuachu is attracting interest from a host of clubs in Europe following a record-breaking season for Genk in the Belgian Jupiler League last season.
The 27-year-old scored 33 goals in 38 league games for Genk, while he also scored another two to help the club win the Belgian Cup.
Onuuachu’s performances have gotten the attention of many teams, with Lyon reportedly ready to make a move for him.
However, Van Den Brom still retains the hope of keeping the Super Eagles striker beyond this summer.
“I hope that we will still be without leavers on September 1, Den Brom told voetbalnieuws.
“It would be very nice if we could keep this core together. It is not certain that Lucumi and Onuachu will definitely leave, but for the time being, they are still at Genk.”
The former Dutch footballer also added the club expects them to leave, but it’s not certain they will go.
“They are the two players we’ve said are likely to leave, but that doesn’t mean they’re leaving the club anyway.”
Meanwhile, any club hoping to take the Nigerian international will have to pay the 25m euros valuation Genk have put on him.
