Slavia Prague sign another Nigerian star

Boosted by the exploits of Super Eagles star Peter Olayinka, the newly-crowned league kings have secured the signature of another brilliant Nigerian talent

Czech Republic Fortuna Liga Champions Slavia Prague have completed the signing of former Nigerian U-23 star Ubong Moses Ekpai on a three-year deal.

Fresh from completing a loan spell at fellow Czech club České Budějovice, Ekpai joins Slavia from former league champion Victoria Plzen for an undisclosed fee.

And taking to his Twitter account, the 25-year-old midfielder reveals his delight at joining the champions.

“I’m Super Excited to join @slaviaofficial. I’m fired up and can’t wait to start this journey. Special thanks to everyone who made this possible,” he wrote.

And in his first interview granted to the club, the former Kano Pillars star confessed that the chance to win tournaments and play in the UEFA Champions League convinced him to sign for Slavia.

“I want to do a lot of things. I want to win all Czech cups and play the Champions League or the Europa League. I think we have the quality to win the league and the cup. Those are my ambitions.”

Ekpai spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Liberec from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, and there he first worked with coach Trpišovský.

The Czech tactician now manages Slavia and Ekpai confessed that the bond created with the gaffer played a part in choosing the Czech champions.

“Coach Trpišovský is like my father. We used to work together in Liberec, and he knows me well. I understand what he wants from me. We understand each other well.”

Ekpai joins compatriot Peter Olayinka at Slavia and will hope to be as successful as the three-time Czech league winner.
