“If that’s Iheanacho, he doesn’t miss- ex-Rangers star compares Werner to the Leicester striker

The German striker has been criticised after he missed another big chance in Chelsea’s champions league semifinal clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday night

Former Rangers star and manager Ally McCoist has criticised Chelsea’s striker Timo Werner, saying the striker is not a natural finisher like Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.

Werner joined Chelsea from Rb Leipzig with so much promise, but the German international has failed to live up to expectations so far.

Although he has scored 11 goals and registered 12 assists in all competitions for the Blues this season, Werner has come under heavy criticism for the number of chances he has missed this season.

This season, no Premier League player has missed more big chances (29) in the league and European competition than Werner.

The German international was guilty of missing another big chance in the Blues 1-1 draw against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

Werner should have put Chelsea ahead in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash against Los Blancos after he was set up by Christian Pulisic, but he could only hit straight at Thibaut Courtois from close range.

And speaking after the draw against Real Madrid, McCoist believes Werner lacks the finishing qualities of the in-form Iheanacho.

“I can see Werner thinking about that chance, where a natural finisher doesn’t, McCoist told TalkSport.

“If that’s Iheanacho, he doesn’t miss. I can see a slight sense of hesitation,” he added.

Iheanacho and Werner have had contrasting fortunes, with the in-form Nigerian enjoying the best spell of his career.

The 24-year-old has 17 goals in all competitions for Leicester this season and has scored 14 in his last 14 appearances.

Iheanacho could still be the man to solve Chelsea’s striking issues as he has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
