Amuneke Lists Ligue 1 Star Moffi Among Top Super Eagles Strikers For The Future

The FC Lorient forward is enjoying an outstanding maiden season in the French top flight, and a brighter future awaits him, judging by the words of the former international

Former Nigerian winger Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed his delight at Terem Moffi in only the young striker’s maiden season in the Ligue 1.

With Moses Simon experiencing a topsy-turvy season at Nantes, Moffi has been Nigeria’s brightest shining light in the French league despite Lorient’s turbulent campaign so far.

The 21-year-old has been the one almost singlehandedly powering his team’s target of beating the drop to the lower division.

Moffi netted a brace at Marseille at the weekend, having already breached the goal against champions PSG and Monaco earlier in the year.

With 11 goals in 27 Ligue 1 matches, Moffi is among Nigeria’s most prolific forwards in Europe – a list that also has Genk’s target man Paul Onuachu, Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Crotone’s Simy Nwankwo, and Napoli’s record buy Victor Osimhen.

And Amuneke is convinced the Lorient ace’s quality will make him a regular for the Super Eagles in the not-too-distant future.

“I am happy for him, and I hope he can achieve all he wishes for in the game. I have been following his progress for some time now,” the former Barcelona winger told NationSports.

“He is among the top Nigeria strikers at the moment alongside the likes of Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu and is in the list of players that I have seen that would be relevant for the Super Eagles in the coming years.”

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr named Moffi on the standby national team list ahead of the Afcon qualifiers in March. Still, coronavirus restrictions placed in France hampered his chances of making the squad following a couple of withdrawals.

The German tactician, however, rates Osimhen, Iheanacho, Onuachu, Almeria’s Umar Sadiq, and Kano Pillars Ahmed Musa ahead of the ex-Kortrijk star.
