Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun Near First Career Title

The two foreign-born Nigerian stars have had their entire professional career in Europe, but they are finally drawing close to a first-ever championship triumph

Joe Aribo guided Rangers to an excellent 3-0 win over St Mirren at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday to move the Gers closer to a first league win in a decade.

Leon Balogun was a second-half substitute as goals from Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, and Ianis Hagi powered the Light Blues to yet another home win and within touching distance of a historic 55th league title.

With the convincing victory, the two Super Eagles stars take a giant step towards becoming champions for the first time in their respective careers.

Rangers would be crowned Scottish champions as early as Sunday should John Kennedy’s Celtic fail to beat Dundee United.

It is a fair reward for Aribo, who took the unpopular decision of leaving Charlton Athletic to team up with Rangers on a free in 2019.

And after a runner-up medal each in the Premiership and the League Cup last term, the 24-year-old has cause to celebrate a glorious season this year.

It is a similar story for Balogun, who has no trophy to show for his many years playing in Germany and England.

And after only a league campaign in Scotland, the 32-year-old is a champion.
