Nigerians Abroad: Onuachu The Star In A Night Full Of Average Performances

There were midweek games in some of Europe’s top leagues, and several Nigerians were in action for their respective clubs

Paul Onuachu was the only shining light in a night of average performances from Nigerian stars that played yesterday.

The 26-year-old took his tally to 18 goals in 18 league games after scoring a hat-trick in Genk’s 4-1 thrashing of Eupen.

Onuachu scored in the 42nd minute to give Genk a 2-1 lead before two spot-kicks in the second-half completed his hat-trick.

The former Midtjylland striker was then replaced by his international compatriot, Cyriel Dessers, shortly after completing his hat-trick.

Meanwhile, in France, it was a disappointing night for the Nigerian stars. Former Kortrijk striker, Terem Moffi was on target, but it was not enough to prevent Lorient from a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Monaco.

Moffi had briefly levelled the scores for Lorient in the 30th minute following Axel Disasi’s opener in the ninth minute. However, Monaco scored four second-half goals to secure a comprehensive victory over their hosts.

In other games, Moses Simon was a late substitute as Nantes played out a barren draw against Rennes. The former Levante winger was introduced for Randal Kolo Muani in the 89th minute, but Les Canaries could not find a way past their visitors.

Also, Samuel Kalu and Josh Maja both featured in Bordeaux goalless draw at Metz. Maja featured from the start but was replaced by Jimmy Briand in the 71st minute, while Kalu made his return to the team, coming on for Remi Oudin in the 71st minute.
