The Super Eagles star contracted the virus after returning from a trip to Nigeria, but he has apologised for not obeying the protocols
Victor Osimhen has apologised for his behaviour during a recent trip to Nigeria. The Nigerian international tested positive for coronavirus, but after he celebrated his 22nd birthday with a small group of friends in Nigeria.
However, in a video that has now gone viral, Osimhen and his few friends did not observe social distancing while no one used the face mask.
The former Lille striker has now apologised for his indiscretion, which will keep him out of action for another ten days.
In a statement released on his Instagram story, Osimhen said: “I am so sorry for what happened, I was wrong to go to Nigeria in this moment, even if I have many loved ones over there, including my brothers.
“I was wrong to take part in the party I didn’t understand the severity of what I was doing. I apologise to the club, the coach, the team and the fans.”
Meanwhile, Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso has said he is partly responsible for what happened as he allowed him to travel to Nigeria.
“I gave him the authorisation to go to Nigeria, so I was wrong too,” Gattuso told Claudio Russo.
The former AC Milan manager also praised the striker for apologising- although he refused to confirm if Osimhen received a fine from the club.
“He knows he was wrong, he apologised, and now we are waiting for him. Will the club produce fines? I am a coach, I only decide the type of language I use with him,” Gattuso added.
