Chukwueze’s Introduction Helps Villarreal Salvage A Point Against Real Madrid

The Super Eagles winger did not start, but he came off the bench to help the Yellow Submarines salvage a point against the champions

Samuel Chukwueze’s introduction in the second half inspired Villarreal o a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

The home side had fallen behind inside the opening two minutes after Dani Carvajal’s cross found Mariano Diaz, who headed home to give Madrid the lead.

Villarreal tried to find a way to get back into the game, but it was Madrid that went into the break with a goal advantage.

However, on the hour mark, Villarreal manager, Unai Emery introduced Chukwueze for Carlos Bacca, and he did not take long before the Nigerian international made his mark.

With less than 15 minutes to go, the 21-year-old raced on to a through ball but was tripped by Thibaut Courtois in Madrid goal, leaving the referee with no choice than to award a penalty for Villarreal.

Gerard Moreno stepped up to convert the resulting spot-kick, which earned a point for Emery’s men.
