Aribo, Dennis Return As Rohr Releases Super Eagles List For Sierra Leone Doubleheader

The two stars missed the international friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia earlier this month, but they are back in the squad that will face Sierra Leone in a doubleheader Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier

Gernot Rohr has named Nigeria’s squad for the Afcon qualifier against Sierra Leone, and there’s a return for both Joe Aribo and Emmanuel Dennis.

Aribo and Dennis missed the Super Eagles clash against Algeria and Tunisia due to injury, but they have since made goalscoring returns for their clubs.

Aribo was on target in Rangers win over Livingston last weekend while Dennis was on target for Club Brugge in their Champions League opener against Zenith St Petersburg last week.

Another player making a return to the Super Eagles squad is Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, who also missed the games against Algeria and Tunisia.

The former Chippa United shot-stopper is included alongside Maduka Okoye, while there’s a first call- up for Switzerland born goalkeeper, Sebastian Osigwe.

Victor Osimhen also makes a return after missing the international friendlies due to enforced isolation at his Napoli club.

However, Wilfred Ndidi misses out as he is still recuperating from a groin injury and he is not expected to return until December.

Regulars like Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Chidozie Awaziem, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Ahmed Musa and Samuel Kalu are also part of the squad.

Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi and FC Midtjylland’s Frank Onyeka are also back after they both made their debuts earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Paul Onuachu, who was in the squad for the two friendly games, has been placed on standby alongside Kelechi Nwakali, Francis Uzoho, Samson Tijani, Ramon Azeez and Ikechukwue Ezenwa.

The Super Eagles host the Leone Stars on November 9 before the return leg in Freetown four days later. Rohr’s men currently lead the group with a maximum six points from two games, and a win in both games will see them qualify for the tournament in Cameroon.
