Super Eagles Stars On Target In France, Belgium

There was action in the French Ligue 1 and Belgian Jupiler League on Sunday, and it was a good day for two Nigerian internationals

Moses Simon and Paul Onuachu were both on targets for their clubs as the new football league season continues to gain momentum.

Simon, who joined Nantes permanently on a four-year deal this transfer window, opened his Ligue 1 account this season as Les Canaries had to come back from two goals down to salvage a point against Saint Etienne at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

Adil Aouchiche put the away side ahead inside two minutes, then Yvann Macon doubled the lead in the 66th minute.

Simon, however, pulled one back for Christian Gourcuff’s men five minutes later before Renaud Emond’s strike five minutes from time restored parity.  The draw means Nantes have only one win from four games this season.

Meanwhile, in Belgium, Paul Onuachu was the hero as his brace helped Genk overcome KV Mechelen in the Belgian Jupiler League clash between the two sides.

The match started with Mechelen taking a shock lead six minutes after kick-off courtesy of a Kerim Mrabti strike, but Onuachu levelled matters four minutes later.

Junya Ito then gave Genk the lead ten minutes after the break before Onuachu added gloss to the scoreline by scoring his second in the 68th minute.

The brace increased his tally this season to four in five games. His compatriot, Cyriel Desser, was an unused substitute in the encounter.
