Chelsea were then reduced to ten men after Kovacic received a second booking for a foul on Xhaka.
A terrible day got worse for Chelsea as Frank Lampard's side ended the game with nine men following an injury to substitute Pedro Rodriguez. The Spanish forward had to be stretchered off with the Blues having already exhausted their substitutes.
There was, however, to be no further goals as Arsenal beat Chelsea for the third time in the FA Cup final.
