The Portugal star had a frustrating game in the second leg semifinal clash against AC Milan, and it continued in the final as Napoli beat Juventus on penalties to win the Coppa Italia
It was more disappointment for Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus as they were the losing side in the final for the second consecutive season following a penalty shootout loss to Napoli.
The former Real Madrid star missed a penalty in the 0-0 draw against AC Milan last weekend, and it only got worse in the final as he was anonymous for most parts of the match.
In a match that had few chances, it was Napoli that came close to scoring on two occasions. First Lorenzo Insigne hit the post from a free kick in the first half, while Gianluigi Buffon got down quickly to deny Elseid Hysaj’s superb header in added minute of normal time.
With neither side failing to find a way through, the match went into a penalty shootout, which Napoli won. Paulo Dybala and Danilo missed the Juve’s opening penalties before Leonardo Bonucci and Aaron Ramsey scored theirs.
However, Insigne, Politano, Maksimovic and Milik all scored for Genaro Gattuso’s side to secure the trophy for the city of Naples.
