He is currently playing in the Regionalliga West with Fortuna Dusseldorf II, but Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, could be playing top tier football next season
The 20-year-old is aware of the pressure to play in a competitive league, and he has revealed that his club are in discussion with an Eredivisie side ahead of a potential transfer next season.
Okoye was handed his international debut in Nigeria’s international friendly clash against Brazil last November, and he’s touted to be Nigeria’s No. 1 goalkeeper in the future.
However, there are fears he may not be the man as he currently plays in Germany’s lower leagues. Okoye plays for Fortuna Dusseldorf’s second team in the Regionalliga West, and that’s not gone down well with Nigerians.
Many believe the Super Eagles goalkeeper should be playing in a competitive league. And it appears he’s set to move to a top league after he revealed in an Instagram live chat with the Super Eagles account that he’s set to go on loan to a club in the Dutch top-flight.
“Playing for the Super Eagles as been a good step for my career, my club are arranging for me to go on loan to a club in the Netherlands Eredivisie next season to get premiership experience,” Okoye said.
