Super Eagles Midfielder Explains How Coronavirus Affects His Ramadan

Despite the widespread adverse effects of the deadly COVID-19, Nigerian midfielder Ramon Azeez has chosen to look at the bright side of life during the special Islamic season.

Granada star Azeez admits that this year’s Ramadan may be the best he has experienced, despite being in a coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

It is a period during which Muslims are expected to refrain not only from food and drink, but also from tobacco products, sexual relations, and sinful behaviour.

However, Ramadan, this year, is coming at a time the world is grappling with one of the worst pandemics in history.

The deadly COVID-19 has infected almost three and a half million people worldwide, claiming nearly 250,000 lives.

With all football activities put on hold to help halt the spread of the pandemic, Ramon has had time to devote himself to the tenets of his faith.

These include prayer, recitation of the Quran, and the performance of charitable deeds while striving for purity and heightened awareness of God.

“Being at home, I have a better Ramadan because I am a little more connected to the most important things,” Azeez told the club’s website as per BeSoccer.

“Being outside, you see things that you should not see, but I am carrying it much better at home.”

Before the break, Azeez made 17 league appearances for Granada scoring twice – including the opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Barcelona back in September.
