Gernot Rohr has put together one of the most formidable Super Eagles teams since he arrived, but he still hasn’t done enough according to a former Nigeria manager.
Clemens Westerhof has criticised Gernot Rohr’s work since he was appointed as Nigeria’s manager, saying the German’s record is not as good as his and Keshi’s.
Keshi won the nations cup with Nigeria in 2013, and he also led Nigeria to the 2014 world cup where they crashed out in the round of 16.
However, the Super Eagles could not defend their Africa Cup of Nations title under his watch in 2015 as they failed to qualify.
The Big boss also has an inferior winning record compared to Gernot Rohr. Keshi managed the Super Eagles 41 times, winning 18 games, losing 11 with 14 matches ending in a stalemate.
Meanwhile, Westerhorf led the Super Eagles to their second nations cup title and qualified the team for their first World cup.
In contrast, Rohr was appointed in 2016, and in that time he has managed 37 games, winning 20 games, drawing seven games and losing just ten games.
Although he is yet to win any silverware, he has led the Super Eagles to two major tournaments with a game to spare.
But despite his achievements, Westerhof believes the German’s time as Super Eagles manager has been underwhelming.
Rohr, who is into the final two months of his current deal, has also been criticised for his handling of local league players, and it is something Westerhoff also agree with.
In an interview with the Vanguard, the Dutchman criticised Rohr for living outside the country, saying he can’t know the qualities of these players if he does not watch their games.
“I don’t know him. I learnt after he plays one match, he goes back to Germany.”
He said there are no good players in the local competition. How would he know whether there are good players if he does not go to watch matches of the local league?
His record is not good enough. My record and Keshi’s are better than his. So he must stay in Nigeria.
