Match-Fixing: Former Nigerian International Banned

One-time Manchester City star Dickson Etuhu has been found guilty of bribery-related offences and has been suspended from all football activities.

Swedish Football governing body has confirmed in a statement released on their official website that former Super Eagles midfielder Etuhu is banned for five years after investigations revealed he was involved in a match-fixing scandal.

The statement read in part:
“The Disciplinary Board has decided to suspend two people because they have deliberately tried to persuade an all-Swedish football player to underperform in one of the team’s matches.

“Through their actions, the people have violated the anti-match fixing regulations and are therefore suspended for five years.”

The other person cited as Etuhu’s co-conspirator is IFK Rossjoholm player Alban Jusufi.

Etuhu ran into trouble in Sweden three years ago when he allegedly attempted to influence the result of a Swedish league match.

He was said to have offered former AIK goalkeeper Kyriakos Stamatopoulos money to underperform during a match against IFK Gothenburg.

The defensive midfielder had moved to Sweden in 2015 to wind down a career that had seen him star for Fulham, Blackburn Rovers, and Manchester City, among others.

Etuhu, 37, represented Nigeria 33 times and was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals.
