The Super Eagles star has revealed he admires Jurgen Klopp and he also feels for Liverpool amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
The Reds are well on course to win their first Premier League title for the first time in 30 years with the Klopp’s side needing just two more wins.
But the coronavirus outbreak has put the bid on hold as the Premier League is currently suspended. The pandemic has killed over 60,000 people worldwide and has shut down almost activities in the world.
Sporting competitions are not left out with almost all football leagues currently on suspension as experts try to deal with the pandemic.
Liverpool appear to be the club that is most affected by the decision to suspend football as the Reds are currently 25 points of their nearest rivals Man City.
Although the consensus is that the season will be completed whenever it is safe to do so, Super Eagles star, Leon Balogun admits it’s a tough one on Liverpool given how they’ve played this season. The Wigan star said this in an interview with Tolu Olasoji.
“Technically on a very high level. It’s just something that really, really speaks to me personally. So, it’s sad if you look at the amazing run that they’ve had and this outstanding level throughout the whole season, it’s a shame.”
Speaking on why he admires Liverpool, Balogun revealed it has to do with Klopp and his agent. The former Mainz centre back said he has always loved Klopp since his time in Germany, and his agent is also a Liverpool fan.
“My agent is a big, big Liverpool supporter and I always have great sympathy for the club too, but also for the manager Jurgen Klopp because I’ve had several encounters with him throughout my career he’s just like, if you see him, his presence and everything.”
“I’ve played with players who have been coached by him, and everyone says they love him. The thing they say about him. There is something about him, his aura, kind of – it just gets you.”
“I spoke to him as well after our match against them in my first season at Brighton and also the return leg. We spoke a little bit because also their physio, one of the physios used to work with me at Mainz 05.”
“So we had a chat, all three of us, and I just like his style of playing. Also, back then, when he was at Dortmund, I was really [into them]. Dortmund they just gave you joy, you know?”
“So when Klopp moved to Liverpool, it raised my sympathy as well,” Balogun added.
