AC Milan Set Sights On Josh Maja To Replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic

It’s just over a year since the Nigerian international moved to France to join Bordeaux, but he may soon be packing his bags as the Serie A beckons.

Italian giants AC Milan are keen to add Les Girondins forward Josh Maja to their attack force to compensate for the impending loss of Swedish icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to a report by Italian publications Sportpaper.

Ibrahimovic returned for a third spell at the San Siro in December last year on a free transfer on a six-month contract until the end of the season, with an option to extend his contract until the end of the 2020–21 season.

The former Manchester United star has since banged in three goals in eight league matches to help the Rossoneri back in the hunt for a European spot.

But it is increasingly looking like the former Paris Saint Germain hero won’t take up the option of extending his contract with Milan, and the club is already preparing for his exit.

Maja is one of the strikers Milan are looking at to replace the 38-year-old, with the young Super Eagles forward gradually building a reputation as an assured finisher in the box.

Six goals in six Ligue 1 starts for Bordeaux is testament to the 21-year-old’s abilities in the opposition area.

Football, as with many other activities, is currently suspended in Italy due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, putting on hold any transaction between clubs.

But once football resumes, Maja could be joining compatriots Ola Aina (Torino) and Udinese’s William Troost-Ekong in the Serie A.
