The Franco-German tactician has been offered a new contract to continue as the head coach of the Super Eagles, Soccernet.ng understands.
According to a new report by The Punch, the Nigeria Football Federation has handed a new ‘two-year deal’ to former Bordeaux manager, Gernot Rohr. The new contract, if agreed upon by all parties, may see Rohr lead the national team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, should the team qualify.
This development should please the former Gabon coach, who has repeatedly stated his desire to continue in his role as the gaffer of the three-time African champions.
Rohr may likely frown at a section of the contract, which seeks to reduce his monthly salary and bonuses.
The 56-year-old coach has had an exciting time since his appointment in August 2016, leading the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and guiding the team to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
Having previously managed Niger Republic, Gabon, and Burkina Faso on the continent, Rohr’s time with Nigeria has been his most successful in Africa.
Under him, the Super Eagles have managed 23 wins out of 40 games played, suffering nine defeats.
