Transfers: How Will Osimhen Fit In At Liverpool?

The Nigerian international is attracting interest from the Premier League leaders following a sensational start to life in the French Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old moved to the French topflight when Lille paid 13m euros for his services from Royal Sporting Charleroi. This is after he scored 20 goals in 36 appearances for the Belgian side.

He has continued in the same vein since joining Les Dogues, taking the league by storm, leaving defenders for dust and eating goals for dinner.

The Super Eagles star has scored 10 Ligue 1 goals for Christophe Galtier’s side, while he also has two champions league goals, and one Coupe De La Ligue goal to his name.

It is performances like this that have made clubs around Europe take notice of him. According to reports the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Spurs are all interested in the services of the lanky striker.

But just last weekend, it was reported last week Liverpool are now in the pole position to sign the Lille hotshot with Klopp telling the club’s scout to provide a comprehensive detail about him.

While it’s still unlikely Lille let go of their prized assetSoccernet Nigeria takes a look at how the Super Eagles star will fit into the Liverpool team should a deal be arranged.

It must be said that Liverpool arguably have the most lethal attack in Europe, so it will be difficult for Osimhen to come in and just break-in.

The trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino have over 200 goals between them since they started playing together, so it will take someone with a proven goal record to break the tandem.

Luckily for Osimhen, his track record speaks for him, but who is he likely to displace in the front three should a deal be agreed by both parties?

The answer is no other than Roberto Firmino. Although the Brazilian is important to Liverpool’s style of play because he starts the pressing, the arrival of Minamino means Liverpool already has a replacement for Firmino.

The Japan star similar in terms of style with Firmino, and could be introduced as an attacking midfielder which means Firmino drops out from his striking role. Naby Keita could also be an alternative in Liverpool’s search for the creativity Firmino brings.

Firmino plays as a number nine for Liverpool, although a false nine, his record in front of goal has been poor. While he has been praised as the brain behind the fabulous trio, he has been criticised this season for not being clinical in front of goal.

The Brazilian international has scored just eight goals in 30 appearances for the Premier League leaders this season. His lack of goals means he’s the likely player to drop out for Osimhen.

Klopp plays a 4-3-3 formation, and with Salah and Mane operating from the wings, the only logical position available for Osimhen to fill is the centre forward role.

The lanky striker may be Klopp’s Lewandowksi at Liverpool. The Polish striker had a fruitful time under the German tactician during their time together at Dortmund.

Osimhen could also play that role for Liverpool, but in fairness, it would be an almost impossible task to break into the Liverpool team immediately, so it’ll be good for him if he continues his development at Lille.
