The Nigerian winger was one of the brightest shinning lights as Nantes shocked their hosts St-Etienne 2-0 in a Ligue 1 tie on Sunday evening.
Goals from Mehdi Abeid and Ludovic Blas – off a Moses Simon assist – earned the Canaries their first win in 19 years at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard. It also claimed all the three points at stake for Christian Gourcuff’s side to lift the visitors above Lille into fourth on the Ligue 1 table.
Though, not among the goals, a lot of the post match praises were directed at Super Eagles forward Moses Simon, whose trickery and pace upfront troubled the hosts all night.
Speaking to Nantes TV after the game, the chief beneficiary of Moses’ fine assist and scorer of Nantes second goal, Ludovic Blas talked up the importance of the Nigerian to the Nantes cause.
“We (The team’s attackers) get on well with Moses Simon. With Imran Louza too. It works, we must continue hoping that we will continue. We manage to reproduce in the match what we do in training,” Blas said.
“Simon is very good technically, (he’s a player) who goes super fast. If we don’t play there like that, we never will. He’s more at the heart of the game, like Imran. It was the solution to this match. Otherwise, it would have been difficult.”
Former Standard Liege striker, Renaud Emond, only just joined FC Nantes and he has already seen from close quarters how brilliant the Nigerian is.
“Simon Moses played well. I know him, he is a very good player. I will be happy that he can make me some assists,” Emond pleaded.
The winger, on loan from Levante, now has five assists and two goals in 17 starts for Nantes, making him the Creator-in-chief for the Canaries. The 24-year-old has had a hand in 7 of the 19 goals scored so far by Nantes. Simon has also registered three goals in 2 appearances in the Coupe de la Ligue.
