Saturday, January 4 was a day to remember for the young defender after he helped Championship side Sheffield Wednesday keep a clean sheet and earn an unlikely victory at the home of Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
Adam Reach scored the only goal of the game to give the Owls a fully deserved passage to the next round as they more than matched their topflight opponents.
However, a lot of eyes were on young Osaze Urhoghide debuting at right-back for Gary Monk’s side. The Anglo-Nigerian was resolute and confident with and without the ball as the Owls’ backline limited Brighton to only a few chances.
It’s been quite a journey for the 19-year-old who was released in the summer by Wimbledon and for a while searched – in vain – for a club to play for, but Sheffield Wednesday decided to take a chance on him.
After the Brighton game, Urhoghide granted an interview where he honestly described how tough the journey has been.
His simplicity, honesty and smile during the chat touched quite a few hearts, including those of former Liverpool star Peter Crouch and Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Great little vid clip, football as it is in its raw state and the reason every boy or girl will dream of making it. Not for fame or money but the feeling of making your pro debut! Brilliant stuff
