The Premier League returns after a small FA Cup break while the Serie A should get back into full gear following last week’s return from the end-of-the-year break.
As to be expected, there’s a lot of action to look forward to this weekend and as part of our tradition, Soccernet.ng have selected games that can earn you extra cash by placing a bet on them.
Here is Soccernet.ng picks for the weekend.
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal (Premier League):
Mikel Arteta’s 10th-placed Arsenal head to Selhurst Park this weekend to clash against 9th placed Crystal Palace with a win for either team capable of launching the winner within a touching distance of the 5th spot.
Two wins, two draws and a defeat from the Spaniard’s first five games at the helm would have given the Gunners’ faithful a slight ray of hope heading into this clash.
But Roy Hodgson’s men are a difficult side to get the better off at home with the present top three – Man City, Leicester City and Liverpool – the only teams to have beaten Palace at Selhurst Park in their last fourteen league outings there.
Match Facts:
Crystal Palace have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 6 matches against Arsenal in all competitions.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Crystal Palace’s last 8 games.
Crystal Palace have scored at least 2 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches against Arsenal in all competitions.
The hosts will look to stifle Arsenal’s offensive setup and with the low scoring pattern in Crystal Palace’s games this season, the under 2.5 goals market looks the smartest avenue of approach for Saturday’s game. (Under 2.5 goals)
Leicester City vs Southampton (Premier League):
After successive defeats to Man City and Liverpool, Leicester City bounced back in typically emphatic fashion: winning three and drawing one of their last four games.
The last time City faced Southampton, the Foxes annihilated the Saints 9-0 at St. Mary’s in an incredible Premier League battering in late-October.
But a repeat of that scoreline in this rematch is unlikely with the visitors in much better shape. The Saints’ 2-0 win over Huddersfield in their cup assignment last weekend stretched their recent unbeaten streak to five matches, and Southampton were beaten just twice in 10 matches overall.
Match Facts:
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Leicester’s last 4 games.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Southampton’s last 3 games.
Betting Tips:
Not many teams can keep clean sheets against Leicester City while the Saints have scored in 12 of their last 13 top-flight outings. (Both teams to score).
Tottenham vs Liverpool (Premier League):
Jose Mourinho’s men were held at Middlesbrough in the FA Cup to make it one win in five matches in all competitions, signalling the end of the former Chelsea manager’s honeymoon period.
More problems abound though with talismanic striker Harry Kane ruled out for an unknown amount of time, and first team duo of Tanguy N’Dombele and Moussa Sissoko also out injured.
It is the worst possible time to host the rampant league leaders who find themselves a massive 13 points clear of 2nd place Leicester.
Liverpool’s last Premier League outing was a routine win at home to Sheffield United, making it 19 wins from their opening 20 league matches and extending their winning streak to 11.
Match Facts:
Liverpool are undefeated in their last 37 matches.
Liverpool have scored at least 2 goals in 11 of their last 13 away matches.
Tottenham have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches against Liverpool in all competitions.
Betting Tips:
Liverpool have won nine of their last 14 Premier League meetings with Spurs, losing just once. It’s hard to see Spurs getting anything from this tie. (Liverpool to win).
Lazio vs Napoli (Serie A):
It’s the best time to be a Lazio fan as the highflying Le Aquile have won nine consecutive Serie A games for only the second time in their history, while they are within six points of the title with a game in hand.
Simone Inzaghi’s men are a team in top form and Napoli – down in eighth place with only one win in their last 10 league games – should stand no chance at the Stadio Olimpico.
Match Facts:
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Lazio’s last 12 games.
Napoli have won their last 5 matches against Lazio in all competitions. Lazio have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 5 matches against Napoli in all competitions.
Napoli have failed to win 9 of their last 10 league matches.
Betting Tips:
We think that an in form Lazio will have too much for a struggling Napoli, so a home win is our pick in this one. (Lazio to win).
Inter Milan vs Atalanta (Serie A):
Saturday night pits Inter Milan against one of the toughest team in Serie A. Atalanta succeeded where Inter haven’t this term – by making the Champions League last 16.
However, la Dea have had issues with consistency in the league while Inter are hoping to keep their form rolling as they continue their fight with champions Juventus.
While Atalanta have a reputation as the attacking giants in Serie A, Inter are in good shape too.
Boasting two of the league’s most clinical finishers in Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku, Inter will aim for the victory that will keep them at the top of the table.
Match Facts:
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 11 of Inter’s last 13 league games.
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Atalanta’s last 6 Serie A games.
Inter are undefeated in their last 11 league matches.
Inter are undefeated in their last 5 home matches against Atalanta in all competitions.
Betting Tips:
Inter have won four of the last five clashes between these two at this ground which is why we are tipping them for glory in this encounter. (Inter Milan to win).
