Iheanacho’s Hunger For Goals Was Behind His Unsportsmanlike Conduct- Ex Super Eagles Star

Mixed reactions continue to trail Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho’s poor unsportsmanlike conduct in Leicester City’s 1-1 draw against Norwich in Saturday’s Premier League tie at the King Power Stadium.

Iheanacho was taken off by Brendan Rodgers for lack of sportsmanship, although Rodgers denied it was for that reason.

The Nigerian star was given the ball to put out of play due to an injury to a Norwich City player. However, instead of giving the ball back, Iheanacho ran with the ball to try and capitalize on the moment.

The Nigeria international got stamped on and was surrounded by the entire Norwich City players.

Reacting to the former Golden Eaglets star’s action, 1997 Africa Footballer of the Year winner, Victor Ikpeba told Supersports Monday Night Football Iheanacho’s shouldn’t be criticized for attempting to continue the game since there was no rule to that effect.

“There is no rule, he has the right to do that but I think we all celebrate fair play in world football, FIFA emphasizes that. He could have been a gentleman to do that, and it was wrong for him to continue to play especially understanding what happened.

“Iheanacho is back in-form, he’s so obsessed to score goals now, so I can understand his thinking but you can see the reaction from the Norwich players, they were not happy about it. It is sad but for the coach to take him out I cannot understand”.

Saturday’s game was Iheanacho’s 100th appearance in the English Premier League since debuting against Watford on August 29, 2015.
