Former Nigerian Midfielder Backs NFF Over Rohr’s Contract Renewal

Ex international, Henry Nwosu has admonished the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to sack the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr if he refuses to accept the terms of their new deal.

Earlier this month, it was revealed by NFF President, Amaju Pinnick during the federation’s 75th Annual General Assembly in Benin, that the federation wouldn’t beg the German tactician to accept the terms of the contract offered to him.

Pinnick stated that Rohr must be prepared to work and live in Nigeria if he wants his contract to be renewed. Rohr is interested in extending his deal which expires in June 2020, but it left to be seen if he will be willing to accept the new conditions.

Reacting to the development that Rohr should work directly from Nigeria,  Nwosu told the Guardian the NFF should not go back on the decision.

Nwosu added that since Rohr has been outside the country scouting for Nigerian players based in Europe, there has not been any positive result, saying the Super Eagles have not excelled in any major championship in the last four years.

“If Rohr says he cannot stay in Nigeria, the NFF should allow him to go. We can’t remain at the same level every year.

“The Eagles must progress. I don’t hate Rohr, but the fact is that the standard practice of coaches living in the country they handle their team must be replicated in Nigeria,” he said.
