The 2010 Ballon d’Or awards generated a lot of controversies and arguments when Lionel Messi was declared the winner ahead of the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi and most importantly, Wesley Sneijder.
The former Netherlands international had a brilliant year, winning the treble with Inter Milan, while he also played a starring role in the Dutch’s team run to the 2010 World Cup final.
But despite winning the League Serie A and Champions League with the Nerazzurri, while also scoring five goals in Holland’s World Cup run, it was still not enough for him to be crowned the best player of 2010.
Instead, the award was given to Lionel Messi whose Barcelona side was knocked out by Inter Milan in the Champions League semifinal that year, while Argentina were also knocked out in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Messi’s win drew a lot of criticism and arguments with many saying Sneijder should have been handed the prize. However, the just-retired midfielder has now revealed he has no hard feelings, saying the Champions League win with Inter that year gave him more satisfaction.
In a video gotten by Soccernet.ng via Omasports, the 35-year-old revealed he did not feel bad, saying it is not the most important thing for him.
“It’s not the most important thing for me, the Champions League was more important.” When asked if he felt bad, the former Galatasary star said no.
“No, no, It’s a long time ago, I was more happy with the Champions League than an individual prize, he added.
