Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has disclosed that Kelechi Iheanacho would be part of his plan if he plays regular football for his club, Leicester City.
Iheanacho was excluded from Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where the team won bronze after defeating Tunisia 1-0 in the third-place match.
However, the Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles, Imama Amapakabo, told Brila Fm during an interview that was monitored by Soccernet that the former Manchester City star still remains in the plan of Rohr for the 2021 AFCON qualifier.
The three-time Africa champions will face Benin in its opening fixture of the qualifier in September.
‘We have new competitions lined up; we have the Nations cup qualifiers and the World cup qualifiers. It’s a new season for Kelechi and we are glad that whatever his problems were, he has found an answer at club level,’ Imama explained.
‘Kelechi has always been a member of the Eagles team despite the fact that he was not selected for the AFCON in Egypt.
‘We are wishing him the very best, hopefully, he continues with this form of his and he’ll be back in the team in no time when players are called up for our next matches.’
