Jose Mourinho: Why Manchester United will not win the Premier League title despite big Chelsea win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side pummelled Chelsea into a pulp, blasting four goals past the sorry Blues blasting four goals past the sorry Blues while keeping a clean sheet in a performance good enough to win the title but the former manager has called for caution.

Jose Mourinho has ruled the the Red Devils out of the running for the Premier League title despite it just being Match Day 1 and after gorgeous display that left Frank Lampard’s men looking for a cave to hide their faces in shame.

Marcus Rashord got United going with a first half penalty before a further three goals – from Martial, Rashford again and debutant James – in the second half had Old Trafford rocking.

However, the former Real Madrid manager believes United may have signed a brilliant defender in Harry Maguire but are certainly not equipped well enough to challenge Manchester City for the title especially with his former club selling forward Romelu Lukaku to Inter and not replacing him before the transfer window closed.

Mourinho is of the opinion they will have more problems against teams who are less open than Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

“United will find it much more difficult to play against teams with compact blocks,” he said.

“If the blocks are low, it will be difficult to play without a striker.

“They don’t have a reason to feel anything but positive in this moment. It is an amazing result.

“It is very important the dressing room feel that they can be champions. I feel they will not be champions, but they can have a good season.”

United’s next match and their first away fixture of the season is on August 19 against Wolves, a team they struggled against last term.
