Reigning champions, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will be desperate for a win as the team faces Shepolopolo of Zambia in their second group B match of the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
Having lost their opening encounter against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa 1-0 on Sunday, the Super Falcons knows that a win will be the result needed to revive their hope of qualifying to the knockout stages of the tournament.
It will be recalled that Zambia defeated Equatorial Guinea 5-0 to go top of the table, they would be hoping for mother-luck to get them a draw against a Nigerian side that would be hoping to bounce back to winning ways.
Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby has assured Nigerians that the team would overcome their Shepolopolo counterpart today.
“I remain optimistic, the aim has not changed and we are definitely securing a ticket to the World Cup in France.
“We hope to go all the way to the final in this tournament again, and of course we need to win against Zambia.”
Meanwhile, coach of the Shepolopolo of Zambia, Bruce Mwape, is targeting a win when his side takes on the Super Falcons in Wednesday’s 2018 Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations Group B clash.
“It’s actually important in the sense that we want to qualify for the Semi-final of this tournament and of course if we get to the Semi-final, our aim is to get to the World Cup because three teams will be required to represent Africa.
“Of course Nigeria are wounded after losing to South Africa, but we will not fear them because we know they will maybe try and play an open game, if they play an open game then we know what to do.”
