Isco has been ruled out of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg clash against Bayern.
Despite his admirable hope of playing through the pain barrier as a painkilling injection had been contemplated, Monday’s training session produced negative results on his recovery.
According to the club’s head coach Zinedine Zidane: “The important thing is the nature of the injury. Physically, both are good. Tomorrow you will see. A player has to be 100 percent, if they are on the bench it is because they are [fit].
“I don’t have to say anything to Isco, he knows what he has to do, we all want him to play. If he has discomfort, we will do everything possible for him, but without risking anything. His health is the most important, as well as what he can do later on.” said Zidane in a press conference according to MARCA
The Spain midfielder has been unable to overcome a shoulder sprain picked up in last week’s trip to Bavaria.
In the more testing physical aspects of the workout, the discomfort felt by Isco meant the chances of a recurrence of the injury were too high.
Coach Zinedine Zidane is well known for his refusal to take risks even in such important games, and he must now name his matchday squad on Monday night without the in-form Spaniard amongst his ranks.
