Iheanacho asks to leave Leicester City

Kelechi Iheanacho has asked to leave Leicester City on loan before the end of the January transfer window in a bid to get regular playing time, with Newcastle United interesting in landing the Nigerian.

The 21-year old has only started two Premier League games for the Foxes since arriving for £25million from Manchester City in the summer, even though he has had more luck in the FA Cup, where he scored a brace at the weekend, making it nine goals in his last nine games in that competition.

Leicester boss Claude Puel is now ready to let the 21-year-old get some game time, and whilst there are clubs from around Europe clamouring for his signature, Newcastle are emerging as a genuine contender for his signature, according to TeamTalk.

It remains to be seen if he will be allowed to leave, but he has been warned by the Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr he needs to move to play more regularly if he wants to make the squad to the World Cup.

  • I am totally in support for him to leave. Their style of play is run, run , run. and only Vardy can do so. Since they play two man upfront in FA, the goals kept on coming. Shows he's got what it takes.
