Barcelona crisis: ‘Over 3,000’ sign anti-Bartomeu vote

Reports from Spain say Over 3,000 Barcelona members have signed off Agusti Benedito’s vote of no confidence against the board of Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The Barcelona club member Benedito who ran for the club’s presidency in 2010 and 2015, losing on both occasions and is now leading a charge to depose Bartomeu and his board after a summer marred by off-field issues on Friday formally declared a vote of no confidence against Josep Maria Bartomeu’s board.

Sport reports long queues were formed outside Camp Nou, both before and after the Catalan derby, which Barca convincingly won 5-0 on Saturday.

Although 16,570 signatures are needed for the coup to move forward, the former presidential candidate is confident about gaining more support when the Blaugrana host Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“It’ll be a Champions League game, with more members in the stands and a notably greater attendance than the derby,” a person from Benedito’s camp said as quoted on Football-Espana

However, while the 53-year-old believes he has until October to collect the necessary number of signatures, the club are adamant the cut-off point is September 19.
