Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte is on the verge of joining English club Manchester City with the deal set to be sealed in the coming days, Spanish newspaper Marca reports.
New coach Pep Guardiola is on a mission to restructure the Manchester side who finished third in the premier league and wants to strengthen the defence. Laporte is the major target for the coach and he is reportedly ready to go any extent to get the young defender.
There have been a heavy link between Laporte and Manchester City since March and Marca have said the defender will be Pep Guardiola’s next signing after Ilkay Gundogan arrived from Borussia Dortmund.
Marca reports that the deal will go through once terms have been agreed and Laporte will move to the Etihad and sign a contract that will run until June 2019.
Laporte, however, is not the only defender in Pep Guardiola’s agenda as Everton’s young defender John Stones is also a target, but it seems like both players will make a move to Manchester this summer.
