Contrary to media reports that Flying Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is injured and effectively ruled out of the May21 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Burundi in Bujumbura, team doctor, Ozi Salami has debunked the story, insisting the striker is fit.
Osimhen injured his left shoulder during Thursday’s test match with the Under-23 National team after a collision with defender Segun Oduduwa and was immediately substituted by coach Emmanuel Amuneke.
“He fell awkwardly after the collision with the Under-23 defender but it is nothing serious as you can see,” thenff.com quoted Dr Salami as saying.
The Wolfsburg of Germany striker scored the second goal in the 65th minute to give the Flying Eagles a slim 2-1 victory over the Samson Siasia tutored Dream Team as both teams perfect strategies ahead of major international engagements.
Osimhen trained alone on Friday evening as the coaches and medical team continue to access his fitness ahead of next weekend. He has so far scored in all but one of the Flying Eagles eight friendly games and looks set to silence the Burundians in Bujumbura next weekend.
